7 Times You Really Just Need Your Mom Around

7 Times You Really Just Need Your Mom Around

Where my mama at?!

The relationship between a mother and child is something that can’t be explained. Moms are so important in life. They are the superhuman that deserves to be apart of Marvel. No matter how old you get, your mom is one of the most important people in your life. They happen to be there for every major event in your life. Here are some times when you really need your mom!

1) When You Get Heartbroken

No one will love you more than your mom. When someone breaks your heart, she’s normally the first person to comfort you. She will provide you with love but will also remind you of your worth. No boy is worth your tears! She will be there to tell you that this pain will go away and you’ll be stronger than ever.

2) When You Learn To Cook

Honestly, I think most moms get a kick out of this. Your mom is there to not only tease you, but patiently walk you through the steps. Turns out we should’ve paid more attention in the kitchen. Who knew how difficult it is to boil pasta!

3) When You’re Sick

Your mom provides you with the best care that no one can compare to. Even though we’re at the age where we are capable of taking care of ourselves, our moms just do it better. It feels as though we get better faster when she’s the one making you soup and covering you with blankets.

4) Life Advice Guru

Your mom is wonderful at giving life advice. Feel like moving to Australia? Want to change your program? Don’t know what you’re doing anymore? She’s there to guide you and spread some wisdom. No matter what you do in life she will support you. She will be able to clear your head to make the decision that’s right for you.

5) Pinocchio? Don’t Know him.

Your mom will be so honest with you all the time that you’ll wish she wasn’t sometimes. Many of your friends will tell you what you want to hear. Your mom will do the complete opposite. She’s not trying to hurt your feelings, she’s trying to help you grow. She’ll call you on your BS and won’t get upset when you get mad at her. You have about a 30 minute rebound rate where you’ll realize she’s right. You also just don’t know how to stay mad at her!

6) When Your Bank Account = $0

Adult living is tough. You’re still learning how to budget and prioritize your time. Your bank account is something that you rely quite a bit living away from home. Obviously, your mom will come to the rescue when you’ve completely broke the bank. She may bail you out by giving you money or she might remind you of your options. She will provide you with ideas on how to make money and will also remind you that she would love to have you home for the summer for free!

7) When You Need A Hug

Moms are always ready to give out free hugs. It’s rare when they get them so they appreciate every single one. As much as they love giving them, you love getting them! Hugs from your mom are one of a kind.

Your mom is one of your major supporters in life. She will be the person you run to for almost everything. If you haven’t had the chance today, remind your mom that you appreciate her. Let her know that she’s raised a strong, independent individual. Finally, let her know you love her with all your heart.

Does the of Your Accommodations Size Matter?

Does the of Your Accommodations Size Matter?

So you’ve finally settled into your apartment or residence dorm. You look around the room and realize if you were to starfish on the floor you could very well touch all four walls with your body. Your space is too small! Moving into a bigger apartment or room is not an option for many reasons. While size does matter, working with space is fairly easy. Here are some tips to make your small room or apartment look and feel bigger!

1) Fold-able Furniture

When seeking out furniture for your apartment or dorm room, try to find furniture that can be stored away nicely. Anything that can easily be folded, stacked or wheeled away will allow your space to feel open. When you’re not using the piece of furniture, just store it away until the next time you need it!

2) Glassy Look

Anything that is made of glass will instantly make your space look bigger because it’ll make the eyes believe that there is more space than there truly is. Tables are always a good buy with glass tops. Glass tables can be the desk for your dorm or a coffee table for your living room!

3) Clean Your Windows!

Clean your windows! While it should be on your chores list anyways, cleaning your windows will allow your room to feel bigger. Just like glass tables, clean windows will play tricks on the eyes about how much space is really in your apartment or dorm.

4) Visible Floors

It’s pretty simple. The more of the floor you see, the more room you have. If it’s your dorm room, keep your clothes off the floor. Take the time to fold them and put them away properly so that you have room to walk around. If it’s for your apartment, also keep your clothes off the floor, but also try to invest in furniture that you can see under. If you’re purchasing a couch or loveseat, invest in one with legs so that light can flow underneath. The more light moving in your room, the better!

5) Mirror, mirror!

You may have thought of this one on your own! When you were ready to purchase a nice mirror, the total cost came to about the same amount of money you owe to your credit card! Try and purchase smaller mirrors for cheaper and group them together to make it feel like one.

6) Netflix and Space

If you have a television and your space is small, contemplate mounting your tv! If you have space on your walls to do this, I would recommend it. It will free up floor space and will make the room feel bigger.

7) Corner Friendly

When placing furniture in your living space, try to keep the tallest pieces of furniture to the corners of the room! You can also place the largest pieces of furniture in the corner. If you have a huge bookshelf, consider placing them in the corners to allow the eyes to believe the room is bigger!

There you have it! Hopefully, these tips and tricks will help you in making your apartment or dorm room feel spacious. It all comes down to how you organize your space, so take the time to find a layout that truly works for you!

9 Reasons to Love Living Alone During University

Everyone decides to live alone for many different reasons. You’ve either officially given up on roommates or trying to take control on this “adulting” thing. Living alone is a big step and definitely a commitment as you’re stuck alone for at least a year if you’re signing a lease. Not to worry! Here are some of the reasons why you will love living alone.

1) Cooking 24/7

Cooking in a house filled with roommates can be chaotic. Who knew all your roommates could be hungry at the exact same time as you? Cooking in an empty kitchen is so wonderful. You have all the available pots, pans and ingredients. There is also no passive aggressive arguments over washing your dishes 0.3 seconds after using them.

2) All The Storage Space

Living alone is so ideal when you own way too many things. All the storage space is yours! You can store away all those suitcases and endless textbooks properly without feeling like you’re taking up way too much space.

3) Living In Ice, Ice, Baby

Do you like your apartment so cold you could freeze? Well, now you can do that! There’s no one to argue with you about the temperature of the apartment. So turn that thermostat off and get yourself tons of blankets so you can be a life-size burrito!

4) Your Space, Your Rules

Because you’re living alone, there’s no need to be respectful of the shared living space. It’s your space, you can do whatever you please. If you like your home so clean you don’t know what dust is, by all means. If you prefer to live in a mess, you’re more than welcome to also.

5) Judgement Free Zone

One of the best things about living alone is the fact that no one can judge you. If you’re having a bad day, go ahead and eat two full boxes of Girl Guide cookies. There is no one around to judge your lifestyle and behaviours. There are absolutely no limitations. Live your best life!

6) No Distractions

This is such a positive to living alone! When you are swamped with school or work, you need the silence and the lack of distractions. Living alone gives you this because there is no one around you. If it is hard to appreciate this sometimes, just think of how your roommates were before one of your midterms. You’re lucky you’re living alone.

7) FREEDOM

You can do anything you want. Whenever. Wherever. You need to do laundry? Go ahead! Feel like taking a bath? Same, but you don’t have to wait for anyone to be done in the bathroom. You have the luxury of using everything in your home at your own convenience.

8) To Party, Or To Not Party?

Having guests over can be painful sometimes with roommates. Fortunately for you, having people over is something only you have to decide. You can have guests over all the time, or not at all because it is completely up to you. So if you want to throw a huge party, you can most definitely do that. If you would prefer to sit in front of your television all night, you most certainly can.

9) Independent Skills

It is true. Living alone can suck because you’re only relying on yourself. However, you’re learning so much about yourself by living alone! You learn about the ways you deal with problems, and the way you react to being alone. Not only you, but people around you will be impressed by your independence!

Living alone will definitely have its ups and downs, but you will end up loving it. It is a learning opportunity and a huge step that many people will take. Don’t let the fear of living alone scare you away, it’s an adventure, so get excited!

Student Success: 9 Foods to Boost Your Brain While Studying

Eat well, achieve well.

While studying, most students reach for junk food and coffee to destress, however, these foods can lead to decreased levels of focus. Choosing healthy and brain powering foods can help you eat your way to success.

1. Avocados

These green powerhouses contain vitamin K and folate, which help improve cognitive function, especially memory and focus. Avocado toast will boost your Instagram and studying game.

2. Blueberries

Often referred to as the “brain berry,” this fruit is full of antioxidants. Antioxidants improve brain health, leading to improved memory and cognition. If you find yourself craving some sugar choose a natural sugar source instead.

3. Blackberries

Similarly, these berries improve memory during long hours of studying. Blackberries contain polyphenols that encourage communication between neurons and allow the brain to be open to new things. In other words, these berries will help you remember the most boring readings while you cram.

4. Oily Fish

Salmon, trout, mackerel, and herring contain high levels of omega-3 fats, which help decrease stress and improve serotonin. Plant alternatives include soya beans, pumpkin seeds, and walnuts. If you cry during stressful studying periods (I’ve been there) then increasing your omega 3s can help boost your mood.

5. Dark Chocolate

Need an excuse to eat chocolate all the time? Dark chocolate contains flavonoids that help regulate blood flow to the brain and heart. Increased blood flow improves memory and focus. If you want an added bonus, try chocolate covered coffee beans to boost brain activity and improve focus.

7. Green Tea

Green tea is a smart alternative to high-caffeinated products. Energy drinks and too much coffee can overwhelm your body and cause caffeine crashes. Green tea provides antioxidants and releases caffeine slowly in the body to avoid crashing and promote concentration over longer periods of time. Green tea also reduces stress, allowing student’s to improve their sleep and rest their brain before tests. David’s Tea also has wellness teas to increase certain moods like energy and focus.

8. Dark Leafy Greens

When reaching for salads, spinach, kale, and romaine are dark greens that are filled with nutrients like vitamin A, B6, and B12. With spring quickly approaching, the time has come to brighten up your dorm and start getting rid of all the unnecessary clutter you’ve gathered through winter. But by getting rid of stuff it’s also time to get creative and change things up a little. That’s where the Internet comes in.

  1. Change Your Bedding: o-URBAN-570You will be so surprised how much your sheets can change the way you feel about your room. And they don’t have to be pricey. Nowadays you can find a full set for about $40 if you look around.

2. Washi Wallpaper: Dorms are infamous for their bland white walls and the sad fact that you can’t do anything about it. But we’ve come up with the perfect solution and, naturally, it involves washi tape! It’s time to pick a theme and get creative.

3. Add a Funny Pillow: One of the easiest ways to turScreen Shot 2016-02-15 at 11.14.34 AMn your room around can be to add a pillow that speaks volumes. 4. Make it Personal: Dorms are a little boring if you don’t personalize them. It doesn’t have to be costly just has to be fun, cute and individual to what matters most to you. And what better way to do so than with memories. And what better way to recreate memories than with pictures. And if you’re getting too lazy to find, choose and print all those pictures hanging around in your hard drive, just get yourself some o-PINTEREST44-570inspiring poster from Ikea.

Fun and Cute Valentine’s Day Ideas With Your Significant Other

1. See a burlesque show. If you’re not the ‘romantic’ type, this idea can actually be a lot of fun. Find one of the growing numbers of burlesque clubs in your city and get those tickets in advance. Not only is it sexy, but it’ll spice up the rest of your evening. Guaranteed.

And don't pay more than 50$ for two tickets. Otherwise, you better be seeing Dita Von Teese.
And don’t pay more than 50$ for two tickets. Otherwise, you better be seeing Dita Von Teese.

2. Rent Your Dream Car. Have you always dreamed of driving a Jaguar? Maybe a Rolls Royce? Rent your dream car and take it for a spin, with a romantic playlist on the iPod, of course. (You might, however, want to “snow check” this one until nicer weather.)

3. Play some nighttime paintball. Or go-carting. Or laser quest. Or bowling. Basically anything that is actually FUN. You’ve got the whole day, spend it wisely. When is the next time you will have an excuse to go go-karting. And remember, the postgame shower is not to be taken alone.

4. Indoor Picnic. If it’s way too cold to actually go outside where you live, throw down a blanket and have a romantic picnic in your dorm room or living room. Make cute little finger sandwiches, cookies or brownies, and pick up your fave chips, then pack them up in a basket. If you want a bigger dose of nature, just flip on NatGeo and listen to the sounds of birds chirping. It’s all the fun of an actual picnic, minus the bugs crawling in your food.

Tip: dim the lights, turn up the music and light up some candles.

5.Recreate your first V-Day together.Who said there’s no such thing as a do-over? Do it the same way you did back then. The only things you’ll miss are the nerves and overblown expectations. Now, this one will take a little more planning a preparation, but if you’re willing to put in the work, there will definitely be an ‘AWWWW’ moment.
